The Raj Anand Moot Court Competition is a premier moot court competition on IP laws and a prestigious one among IP enthusiasts across law schools in India. The competition, instituted to commemorate Late Raj Anand, aims to promote IP Laws. This annual event started in 1998 is currently in its 13th edition. 

The competition has a reputation for its innovative and complex moot problem on contemporary issues in IP law. This year’s problem too promises to be an exciting one simulating a hypothetical dispute between a disease-free state of Valenezia and a nuclear disaster stricken Trashen. A Tsunami hits the island state of Valenezia which forces them trade their unique and secretly guarded healing techniques through their innovative CIPCracker, a computer program developed to enable a person to acquire skill, knowledge or intelligence of another human being. Sixteen of India’s best law schools are invited this year to compete for the ‘The Flame of Creativity’ award. The winning team also gets to keep a rolling trophy  (see image above), designed and created by sculptor and poet Amar Nath Sehgal. Several eminent lawyers such as Harish Salve and Arun Jaitley have judged the competition in previous years.

About the competition

The Raj Anand Moot Court was started in 1998 and is dedicated to the promotion and awareness of Intellectual Property Law. It was inspired by the memory of Late Mr. Raj Anand, who was known for his contributions to intellectual property law in India. 

Since its inception, the Competition has attracted law students from all over India with its innovative moot court problems that are based on puzzling and complex issues in IP law. Every year, participating teams passionately argue the case of a fictitious client in a hypothetical dispute before a bench that consists of eminent members of the legal fraternity. The teams are judged by their ability to understand, interpret and explain complex issues of law before the Moot Court Bench. The Best Team in the competition is awarded the 'Flame of Creativity', which is a rolling trophy that was designed and created by the renowned artist, sculptor and poet, Late Mr. Amar Nath Sehgal.
